The CSCD Board approved a new date for the annual OX ROAST. The new date will be July 6th, 2024. This is also the same date for the annual Sweetwater Lake fireworks display. And.....the OX Roast will be at the Sweetwater Beach area also. Major change in dates and place for this annual fund raiser.

It may be the middle of December but the lakes are busy with construction, maintenance, and dredging.
I believe that private owners have been given dredging permission at several sites. Right now, the dredgers are working on the north end of Sweetwater Lake.

The lakes might not be busy but the contractors are! Two houses on Lion and Cougar Drive were knocked down and new ones going up in their place. And of course, more dock units going up.

AUTUMN
Indiana is in a drought situation causing the water level to go down in some lakes and ponds. Sweetwater and Cordry are fine Notice has been given to residents on Geist and Morse Reservoirs to remove boats off of their lifts before they get "trapped" by low water levels. Some trees are turning colors early due to lake of rain.

UP FROM DAVY JONES LOCKER!
A large log/tree has surfaced at the north end of Sweetwater Lake. Some thoughtful person tied a white boat bumper to it for boater to see. Back in the building of the lakes, large trees were felled and bulldozed to the deep water parts for fish habitats. Once in a while, one of these can surface. The conservancy has been notified. Be on the lookout in the northern cove of Sweetwater Lake. The log has been removed 0/20/2023. Thanks to CSCD employee Josh Bryant!

book for the next offering. The north end of Sweetwater Lake was full of boats and audiences for an afternoon concert.
KAYAK RACERS
Angie Adolay and myself sponsored a Kayak Race today on the north end of Sweetwater. The top three winners are pictured with their medals!
JUVENILE LOON
We've had a guest bird at the north end of Sweetwater for the past few days. Some bird enthusiasts looked it up and think it is a "juvenile loon!" It looks like a loon but the coloring is wrong. He's very friendly and not afraid of boats and people.....doesn't run away when approached.

A couple of severe rains in the past couple of weeks have closed the lakes due to high water levels. Four inches of rain this past Friday and Saturday have put Cordry on "Yellow" and Sweetwater on "Red."

GLOBAL WARMING!
For the first time since the beginning of Cordry and Sweetwater Lakes, the main bodies of both lakes failed to freeze over. In recent years, we enjoyed ice fishing, hiking, skating,
and snowmobiling, on the lakes. It was also interesting to hear the ice "cracking" as it expanded and contracted. Friends tell me that Sweetwater froze over to a thickness of 3 feet in 1978. (Year of the '78 Blizzard)
MARCH SNOW
We all enjoyed the warmest February on record. March in Indiana always holds some surprises! We rose today to rooftops and grass covered with a surprise snow!
