Imagine my surprise this morning as I drove by the Chuck Robinson property on Sweetwater Drive and saw three horses grazing in the yard!

EAST LAKE FULL!

East Lake in Prince's Lakes is within a few inches of going over the spillway. East Lake has been lowered since the flood of 2008. Residents were forced to install a huge new spillway system by the DNR. They obtained grants so the cost to lot owners was minimal. Residents of East Lake and their families will be looking forward to using the lake in the summer of 2013.

COOTS

I've noticed a flock of approximately 30 Coots camping out in the waters near Sweetwater Dam. A few Mallards and a Canadian Goose or two also a part of the party!

UNSUNG HEROES

The Roads/Water employees of the Conservancy District work at some of the nastiest jobs behind the scenes. Today, they were repairing water leaks on Beaver Drive. The Conservancy recently rented a special machine to uncover water mains for repair of water leaks.....a frequent occurance.

CSLOA

The Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners Association met recently to make plans for the 2012 season. Lannie Rossman stepped forward to fill the president's chair left vacant by the passing of Georgene Settles. Other topics discussed included the coming newsletter, calendar of events, fireworks, possible new siding for the clubhouse, the library,

young peoples programs, and the Ox Roast in 2013. The CSLOA needs interested parties to step forward for some of these volunteer projects.

ICE COVERED

The recent cold spell during January has iced over both lakes. There are still open spots and the ice is not safe. Ice fishermen have been out on small lakes and ponds in the area.

LAKE CLARITY RESULTS

For numerous years, Cordry and Sweetwater Lakes have participated in the Indiana Clean Lakes Program. (http://www.indianalakes.org) Volunteers from 82 lakes in Indiana periodically take water samples and measure the clarity of their lakes and submit the results to the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. Quinn Heatherington samples Cordry Lake and Dave Jarrett samples Sweetwater Lake. In past years Cordry and Sweetwater always came in #1 and #2 for lake clarity. For 2012, the #1 lake for clarity is Clearwater Lake in Indianapolis! Other reults are: Clearwater Lake - Marion County - 22.6 feet/ Sweetwater Lake - Brown C
