PADDLE BOARDS

First it was boats, then jet skis, then pontoons became the rage, kayaks have become popular. I saw two groups of "paddle boards" plying the waters of Sweetwater Lake today.

Thanks to the Assocation and Danielle Korson for organizing. Local resident Bill Boyle has assumed the presidency of the CSLOA taking Sheryl Durbin's place until the September elections. Sheryl had to resign to take care of an elderly parent. Ed Kuonen was appointed to the CSLOA Board.

CSCD MONTHLY MEETING

As ususal, there were "fireworks" at the monthly CSCD meeting. The starting announcement was that the Chairperson of the Board, Jerry Fenwick, had resigned and that the area #5 chair on the board is open. Other topics discussed were gas pump hours and prices, employee boat sticker priviledges, boat length issues, road paving for Hackberry and other drives, an audit for the Conservancy, and more. The board failed to reach agreement on the boat length issue now scheduled for another hearing on June 17th at 7:30 PM at the monthly Security Commission meeting.

TAXES

Property Taxes due May 10th took a significant increase for many residents here in the Conservancy. The county property tax rate increased due to school budgets. The local conservancy taxes also increased significantly. Last year, the conservancy had to borrow roughly $300,000 for operating expenses. A lawsuit caused the DLGF (government funding agency) to hold approximately $300,000 used for mainly for security. The lawsuit was settled and now the conservancy is recovering the $300,000 in a one time tax levy. Good news....next year the conservancy tax should decrease significantly.
