OOOOPS!

A local contractor was loading gravel on December 31st at Sweetwater Lake contractor's ramp.  Looks like they may have over-estimated the weight capacity of their work barge!

BROWN COUNTY MUSIC CENTER

2019 brought many notable events and points of interest to Brown County.  The best news for all was the opening of the Brown County Music Center.  Big name entertainers and groups have played to "sold out" crowds at the new center.  Local Nashville restaurants have stayed open on concert days to attract patrons wanting a "whole evening" outing.  The local motels have also seen an increase in reservations.  Look up the coming events at www.browncountymusiccenter.com

A-FRAME CLEAN UP

The beautiful A-frame home at the end of Hackberry Drive burned in November.  Work is now underway to clean up the property.  The remains of the house have been removed and the trees that were singed appear to be being removed also.

TURTLE COVE

The north end of Sweetwater Lake sometimes earns the nickname of "turtle cove."  That was evident today with the warm sunshine.  It was "standing room only" on one of the downed trees in the north end.

CHRISTMAS WATER SKI

Warm weather and smooth conditions allowed for a Christmas Day water ski on Sweetwater.  Air was 62 degrees and water was 42 degrees.

OOOOPS!

Several "slide offs" last night around 5:30 PM.  Church Hill, Cordry Dip,  and Sweetwater Dip all had issues with the sudden "white out" of snow.  The fresh snow is beautiful but slippery!

HIGH WINDS AND LEAVES!

Experienced high winds last night and today.  The high winds are bringing down the last of the leaves plus branches and sticks.  I hate to see all the "leaf-slicks" in the lake when so many of us try to avoid blowing leaves into the lakes.   Mother Nature doesn't abide by our rules!

SURPRISE RETIREMENT PARTY

Bernie McGaha officially retired from the Brown County Sheriff's Department and the CSCD Security Department today....November 22nd.  He has worked for the Conservancy for 34 years.  He was completely surprised by the "full house-standing room only" crowd.  The event was planned by the Conservancy office staff.  Job well done Bernie!

SKIING and SKIING!

Last week's cold spell made Perfect North Ski Slopes near Lawrenceburg get it in gear and made snow.  My friend Dan and I went down for opening day on Friday, November 15th and did some snow skiing.  Saturday, we put a boat in and went water skiing!  Water 50 degrees!

VETERAN'S DAY SURPRISE!

Sunday the 10th was sunny and 62 degrees.  Monday the 11th, all Hell broke loose!  Started off with an overcast sky that developed into light rain but as the temperature dropped the rain turned to snow!
Predictions are for a low of 13 degrees tonight and continued cold freezing temps all week.  Wow!

NEW SIGN

Do notice the new sign just across the street from the Church of the Lakes.  Looks sharp!

The Cordry Sweetwater Fire Department Haunted Trail had a successful Friday night but mother nature intervened on Saturday producing an all day and all evening rain forcing the cancellation of the Haunted Trail for the 26th.  Volunteers from around decorated the "Y" at the entrance with all kinds of pumpkins.

CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA

The Brown County Parks Rec Department sponsored a cardboard boat raced today at Sweetwater Beach.  Awards were given for "most creative, team effort, titanic award, and overall winner."  The Red Baron sunk immediately and won the titanic award!  Other entrees included the space shuttle, swan dive, ss webb, the drill, and others.  Perfect weather and a supportive crowd made for a successful event.  Pictured is "the drill" that barely made it back to the beach before sinking!

OX ROAST WRAP UP

The 60th annual Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owner's Ox Roast is history.  Thanks to the Diners and many dedicated volunteers,  the event came off smoothly even though there was a mid day hour long downpour!   There were kids, dogs, local residents, strangers all enjoying the many booths and venders.  Inside the clubhouse the food line was steady.  Probably the most significant display was the "silent auction."  Thanks to all who worked and attended.

NEW WELCOME SIGN

The CSLOA (Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners Association) has approached the Conservancy Board of Directors to help with paying 50% of a new area welcome sign.  The new sign will be very much like the old sign that was demolished/stolen several years ago.  The new welcome sign will be installed across the road from the Church of the Lakes.  Quotes are presently being researched.

laying on the water mats, etc.

HIBISCUS

I usually don't publish personal items but......I've been nursing this Hibiscus for years......especially this year.  The wet June promoted a lot of flowering plants.  I've religiously babied this plant spraying deer repellant and giving a shot of fertilizer once in a while.  It's located in front of the Sweetwater Realty office.

PAVING

Milestone trucks and equipment have been seen in the Conservancy this week doing patchwork and paving on various drives and roads.  Looks like Sweetwater Drive is one of the main focuses plus some of the side drives need repairs/paving.

FOR RENT

Finally, the corner business building in Nineveh that housed the Feed Store and Realty office has sold.  No sooner than it sold that "for rent" signs have been posted.  Sure would be good to see a successful business open up on that busy corner.

MITIE TOON

Grandpa Condra on Cordry Lake had a challenge getting into and out of the regular fishing boat.   So....went out and bought a new Mitie Toon fishing pontoon that easier to board and exit.  Have fun Grandpa Condra
