SAFE CRACKER

For years everyone wondered what was in the safe at Sweetwater Realty. This safe was previously owned by Howard Prince who developed Prince's Lakes and later began the development of Cordry and Sweetwater Lakes. The safe was located at the liquor store building at the entrance to Prince's Lakes. This build was the original building used for the developments. The safe was later moved to the Sweetwater Realty Building when it was the office for "lot sales" in the Cordry Sweetwater Development. Over the years the combination was lost. New owner Aaron Parris just couldn't come to terms without knowing what was in the safe! Steve Henry of Steve's Lock and Safe opened the save today and assigned new combination. Darn!....the safe was empty!

HOW THICK ICE

The ice is approximately 4 inches thick near my dock on the north end of Sweetwater Lake. Main lake ice would not be as thick. There are some open spots on the main bodies of both Cordry and Sweetwater.

WELCOME SIGN

It appears that the welcome sign near the entrance to Cordry Sweetwater Lakes has been stolen. One of the posts is sawn off and there is splintered wood near the other post. Now who would want that sign? Surely there is no market for the plastic material. The sign was originally paid for and erected by the Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners Association roughly 10-12 years ago. It was taken down and "re-furbished" just a couple of years ago.

FROZEN OVER

Both Cordry and Sweetwater Lakes finally became completely frozen over on Saturday, January 10th. With sub-zero temperatures for 3-4 days, it was bound to happen. There is a flock of geese on keeping a "hole" open on the main body of both lakes. Time to get out the ice skates!

TRIATHLON 2015

One of the business items given an "OK" by the outgoing board today was permission to hold a triathlon. The event presentation was the work of local resident Charles Robinson and it will be a fundraiser for the fire department. The triathlon will be held early in the morning of July 11th which happens to be fire works day on Sweetwater.

NEW CSCD BOARD MEMBERS

New CSCD board members Jerry Engle and Matt Petersen are pictured receiving the oath of office from the Conservancy attorney. Approximately 281 freeholders voted in this election. Other items on the agenda included annual reports for all of the commissions and discussions from freeholders about taxes and budgets. For 2015, the board president will be James Ray, vice president will be Herb Benshoof, and Secretary will be Anita Wright.

SKIMMING OVER

The coves and north sections of both Cordry and Sweetwater have been "skimming over" in recent days. Cold weather is forecast for next week which should ice over larger portions of both lakes.

POLAR BEAR WATER SKI

Yours truly along with about 20 other water skiers participated in the Missouri Disable Water Ski Association's Polar Bear Water Ski event held on January 1st, 2015. The event was held on the Mississippi River at the Arch in St. Louis. Water temperature was 32 degrees and air temperature was 32 degrees! The event raised approximately $6,000 for the home sponsor.
