CHRISTMAS THANK YOU LUNCH

Sweetwater Realty sponsored their annual Christmas Thank You Lunch today for Conservancy Employees, local contractors, and some friends.  They used the CSCD Clubhouse in order to spread out and observe social distancing.  We were especially excited to see Nick and Jamie Johan with their new 9 day old daughter.  Special thanks to Aaron and Beth Parris for decorating and preparing a great lunch.

DECEMBER WATER SKIERS

Friend Dan Federspill and I put on the appropriate garb and went water skiing on December 9th, 2020.  The air was a sunny 56 degrees and the water was 44 degrees.

THANKSGIVING PONTOONING

Gotta get that last ride before taking the boat out!  Get the blankets and maybe a "hot tottie!"

NEW CONSTRUCTION

Its been a while since I posted anything.  Been busy with business, closing down the boats and toys, blowing leaves, etc!   That doesn't mean that there's been no activity around the lake!  There are 2 big homes under construction on the north end of Sweetwater.  One home nearly ready for occupancy is located at Sweetwater Drive.  It appears to be top notch construction.  Another project is just being started on Cardinal Drive.  The forms for poured basement walls look to be ready for the cement trucks.

HALLOWEEN FUN

October Halloween Fun has been enjoyed by all at Cordry Sweetwater Lakes.  The annual Haunted Forest Hayride sponsored by the local fire department enjoyed record attendance.  This event is the fire department's biggest fund raiser.  Then on Halloween night, the Church of the Lakes joined in and brought their "trunk or treat" event to the local fire station.  The weather was great and the folks spread out on the walking trails for their stations.  And of course....the decades old tradition of decorating the 4 way stop in Nineveh was the highlight of the evening for Nineveh.

FALL COLORS

Whomever predicted that the fall colors would not be very vivid due to the lake of rain for the past 6 weeks.  They were wrong!   The colors and weather has has been outstanding!

CHURCH HILL

Thanks to the Conservancy work crew who mowed both sides of Church Hill.  The uphill entrance to the lakes area looks great.  Thank you.

LOSING HEAT!

There goes the warm water.  Steam rising off the surface of the lake indicates heat rising!   The water temperature is cooling off!!!

Pickle Ball has arrived at Cordry Sweetwater!   Locals have been gathering every Saturday morning and other weekday times on the newly marked pickle ball courts at the Firehouse.

FALL IS COMING

Yesterday was the first full day of fall.  Cooler weather and cooler water are on the plate as September comes to an end.  A few select trees are already showing some color probably due to the extreme dry weather.

ASSESSMENT MEETING

One of several "assessment" meeting occurred this evening at the CSCD office garage.  The CSCD board of directors spoke about the recent assessment and several facts about the assessment.  It now appears that the assessment will be $275 per "free holder."  A definition of "freeholder" was also defined.  This is good news to all property owners and helps clear up many questions and concerns.  It appears that one freeholder might own several lots but would receive only one assessment.   An increase in the water bills was also given to the public.  Prince's Lakes who sells us water has increased their fee so....the conservancy must also increase its rates.

NEW POLES!

Earlier this summer, there were crews surveying the area for REMC and looking at telephone/power

poles that needed replacing.  Now we are seeing the actual replacement crews at work installing new telephone/power poles around the county.

LET'S GO SAILING!

Seldom do we see sailboats on either lake.  This fellow was taking advantage of a slight wind on his sunfish sailboat today on Sweetwater Lake.

TAX ASSESSMENT MEETING

The first of 2 Tax Assessment meetings was held this evening outside at the CSlOA Clubhouse.  There was approximately 150 people in actual attendance plus many people were on "zoom."   Many questions were asked and much information was provided by the CSCD Board of Directors about the subject.  One more public meeting will be held in October and then the Board will vote  on the Resolution.

NEW ANTIQUE STORE

A new antique store recently opened just south of the lakes area.  The store Somewhere in Time  is located on Hoover Road near Gatesville.  Stop by and say hello!

DOCK CONSTRUCTION

The summer may be coming to an end but waterfront dock construction is underway at various sites on both lakes.  The popularity of large sitting areas under roof and multiple lifts/slips make the projects look big.

SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

Several local ladies have been gathering together this summer on Tuesday mornings in the shelter house on the beach.  They have been sharing ideas and techniques for quilting and sewing.

MUSIC AND FIREWORKS!

The Meek families of Sweetwater Lake went all out this evening with a live band performing and the fireworks a bit before 10:00 PM.  It capped a beautiful weather day at the lake and a fantastic evening after the fast boating ended for the day.  Thank You Meek Families.

WATER WATER!

This past week resident Quinn Heatherington woke up early to the sound of running water.  He at first thought it was raining but soon realized that he had a running river down his driveway from a burst main supply line on Halibut Drive.  A 6:30 AM call to Josh Hawley produced a repair by 9:30 AM.
Josh estimated the water loss at 400,000 gallons!

Happy Independence Day everyone.

SCUBA DIVERS

Several of the surrounding counties Sheriffs Forces were updating their Scuba Diving credentials on Wednesday at the Sweetwater launch   dock area.  Perfect weather and clear water conditions made it a successful day for them.

JACK RADER

Our long time good friend and neighbor Jack Rader moved away from the lakes today.   Jack will soon be 82 and needed a simpler life style.  Jack worked and sold properties in the lakes for over 20 years.  (Sweetwater Realty)  The real focus of this post is Melissa Shupert.  Over the past couple of years, Jack became more ready to move and "Mitzi" stepped up to the plate sacrificing much time and probably money to help Jack.  She took over his affairs and finances, took him to Doctors appointments and grocery stores, kept track of medications, cleaned house, and more.  She also arranged for his new spot at the Otterbein Community in Franklin.  Hats off and thanks to Mitzi!
The world needs a few more like you!!!

LAKE TREATMENT

Chemical treatment for water weeds  on both lakes was conducted today.  I also did a Sechi Disk test for water clarity.  The clarity depth went to 19 feet.

FIREWORKS SHOW CANCELLED

Much to everyone's disappointment, the annual fireworks show paid for and presented by the Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owner's Association has been cancelled for this summer.  We hope everyone understands and supports this decision due to the risks presented by the Carona Virus Issues.  I would imagine that there will be plenty of fireworks from private docks around both lakes.

ANOTHER ONE OVER THE HILL!

One of the employees for New Wave forgot to put his truck in PARK when he got out of it near the Sweetwater Realty office.   Truck took off down the hill!  There was no damage to the truck and only damage to the property were some significant ruts in the yard which New Wave has agreed to fix.  Thanks to local Jerry Cleefman for bringing his backhoe around and pulling the truck back up the hill.

DOGWOODS DONE!

Last Friday's overnight freeze brought an end to the beautiful dogwoods for this spring.  The redbuds and dogwoods were beautiful this spring.  Now to the "pollen season!"

TO YOUR DOOR SERVICE

As a convenience to area residents,  Johnson's BBQ took pre-orders and brought them to the CSLOA clubhouse for distribution.  Good for the residents and good for Johnson's BBQ!

FULL HOUSE

A sign of the coming summer season is the return of the Martins.  It's a "full house" at three martin house condos on Sweetwater Lake dam near the gas pumps.

APRIL WARM DAYS

There's been a few really warm days in April.  Those warm days brought out the tubers, skiers, sun worshipers, pontooners, and cruisers.  Also I've notice more night-time lights around the lake....probably a number of quarantiners staying at their lake cottages.  Gary and Dan enjoyed yesterdays warm weather skiing on Sweetwater.

BEAVERS AT WORK

Local residents on Finch Drive/Sweetwater Lake discovered a collection of trees and limbs underneath their dock.  Another neighbor reported that beavers were at work this past winter.  The beavers were trapped and now gone but their handiwork remains to be cleaned up.

REDBUDS ARE POPPING!

With all the warm weather, the daffodils are fading only to be replaced by the redbud trees blooming....beautiful.

NASHVILLE GHOST TOWN

Had to go the grocery store in Nashville today.  The store was well stocked.  The town of Nashville was a ghost town!  State Road #135 through Nashville was abandoned.

DAFFODIL HILL

This home on Duck Drive - Sweetwater Lake has the best daffodil display.  The daffodils are blooming all over the county.

THE BEST IN PEOPLE!

The current Coronavirus is bringing out the best in people.  Walkers and friendly hellos at a distance, dog walkers, players at the basketball courts.  Pictured is Judy and Dale Onken picking up trash on the Cordry Dam shoreline for exercise.

OUR GREAT CSCD STAFF

Both Joshes out checking the culverts and valleys for water damage around the Conservancy after last night's storm.  Rescuing boats is not outside of their job descriptions!
