The owner of this property on Grizzly Drive had a large tree taken down in the front yard.  A very artistic person created this bear out of the remaining stump.  It's now decorated for Christmas.

ICE FOREST

Last week's ice storm affected power outages and lots of downed limbs in the area.  It also created some beautiful scenes.  Pictured is Camp Atterbury from Cordry Dam.

ICE!

It looks like it's going to be a winter!  An ice storm arrived during the night and coated trees and roads with a layer of ice followed by a light snow mid day today!  Schools were out and power out for short period of time.  I thought skates would be needed to get to work,  but roads today are fine.

SATURDAY HIGH WINDS

The area experience super high winds on Saturday, October 20th.  Power was out on parts of Cordry due to tree limbs falling on power lines.  Numerous limbs and twigs were everywhere.....certainly cleaned out the "dead wood!"  This aluminum boat lift top came from Osprey Drive and ended up on Sweetwater Dam.

CLEAR WATER

I am one of two people who do water clarity testing in the summer months and turn in the results to Indiana University (Yea!) at Indiana Clean Lakes.  I drop a black and white Sechi disk into the water and record how deep it goes before disappearing.  Usually in summer it disappears at about 17-20 feet down.  Today for fun, I tested and the disk disappeared at 28 feet!

ACORN BOMBS

Seems like every other year is an "acorn year."  The oak trees are loaded this fall the acorn bombs have been falling.  If you have a hickory tree, watch out.  I'm aware of dented autos from the hickory nuts.

SOGGY!

With all the constant rain from Hurricane Gordon, you would think the lakes would be flooding.  The lakes are up but not alarmingly so.  Usually the north end of Sweetwater gets a muddy appearance with so much rain but this was also not the case.  I think the rain was gentle enough not cause erosion and the time if the year with so much green vegetation helped prevent the muddy appearance.

Games, food, memberships, vender displays.

YELLOW JACKETS

It's that time of year when yellow jackets (ground bees) make their nests.  These animals are mean!  They are territorial and when bothered by noise, mowers, leaf blowers, they attack in mass!  I've usually had success  by putting Sevin garden powder down the hole after dark.  Some people put gasoline.  I had to tear a stone wall apart to get at this nest....poured gasoline into the nest and lit it!
Burn Baby Burn!

NINEVEH ROAD PAVING

According to an article in the Brown County Democrat dated August 7th, 2018,  Nineveh road is scheduled to be re-paved in 2019.....good news!

It's "boat sticker time" at the lakes. As a convenience to property owners, the Conservancy Office Staff is offering a "will call" arrangement for boat stickers. If you have no changes for the boats that you want to sticker for 2018-2019, you can call into the Conservancy and they will prepare your stickers in advance for you to come in at a later time and pick up.

EDINBURGH BLUE RIVER DAM

Last week's snow melt and this week's record rains created flash flood warnings and high water everywhere. Our lakes are at high levels but not over any docks. Blue River nearby is completely out of its banks and into nearby fields and is
in flood status.
