Looked out at 4:30 and surprised to see SNOW! How heartwarming to see snow on Christmas Eve. Happy Holidays to all.

NEW TRAIL

Conservancy workers have be devoting a bit of their time to constructing a new hiking trail that would connect the Cordry boat ramp to existing trails in the hiking trail complex. It's muddy and hard to follow at present but will be a welcome addition to the system. Pictured is a bridge that crosses a small stream in the valley.

FIRST SNOW

The first snow of the season arrived on Saturday morning of December 9th. It was only an inch or so but the ground was still warm and the auto traffic compressed it into ice causing numerous slide offs for a couple of hours. I think it just caught everyone by surprise or we all forgot how to drive on snow! Several cars were stranded in the bottom of Cordry Dip, Church Hill, and Nineveh Road near the county line. After a couple of hours of sanding and salting, the roads were back to normal.

BUILDING PROJECTS

There are several building projects going on around the lakes as winter approaches. Pictured is one new house that went up last week on Hummingbird Drive on Sweetwater. This unit replaces a unit that was torn down. Another "remodel/tear down" is under construction elsewhere on Hummingbird.

LINES!

Wow! New street lining has been completed this week in the Conservancy. Yellow lines down the middle of the roads and white edge lines down the sides makes driving safer! The Conservancy also cooperated and agreed to "halvsies" for painted lines on Nineveh Road from the county line to the beginning of the Conservancy property. This will certainly be appreciated on dark rainy nights.

CLEAR WATER

It was a beautiful first day of fall on Sweetwater with 92 degree temps and the water has warmed back up to 82 degrees. During the summer I do water clarity testing for Indiana Clean Lakes program out of Indiana University by dropping a black and white Seichi Disk in the water and see how far down it goes before disappearing. I usually get readings of 17-20 feet on sunny days during the week when there is no boat traffic. The water level is down a bit but extremely clear so I decided to test for fun. The reading was 27 feet.

FALL COLORS

One of the first trees to turn colors in my area is this maple. It's only September 13th!!! I can't believe it! Perhaps the late August dry spell precipitated early colors.

The winning fisherman was local contractor Rodney Gunter who brought in a 6.2 lb large mouth bass and a 3 lb small mouth bass. Congratulations to Rodney and applause to the Anglers Club for sponsoring the event.

WATER METER TRANSMITTERS

Several of us have wondered about the holes that have been made in the water meter covers. As part of the upgrading of the water utility, small transmitters are being installed in every water meter pit. So....the hole will be filled with a plastic appearing unit. This will eliminate the time consuming job of physically reading each meter each month. This will free up man hours for other area jobs.

SCUBA DIVERS

As part of updating their credentials, area sheriffs divisions often visit Sweetwater Lake for Scuba Diving. The Johnson County Sheriff's Department was out this week diving off of the boat ramp area.
