The first snow of the season arrived on Saturday morning of December 9th. It was only an inch or so but the ground was still warm and the auto traffic compressed it into ice causing numerous slide offs for a couple of hours. I think it just caught everyone by surprise or we all forgot how to drive on snow! Several cars were stranded in the bottom of Cordry Dip, Church Hill, and Nineveh Road near the county line. After a couple of hours of sanding and salting, the roads were back to normal.
There are several building projects going on around the lakes as winter approaches. Pictured is one new house that went up last week on Hummingbird Drive on Sweetwater. This unit replaces a unit that was torn down. Another "remodel/tear down" is under construction elsewhere on Hummingbird.

The Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners Association (CSLOA) sponsored a Children's Christmas Craft Day at the clubhouse. Numerous stations were manned by volunteers with lots of Christmas creations resulting. A full house with lots of participants made the day a huge success. Pictured is Larry Kolar helping a youngster with a wood project.

The Cordry Sweetwater Fire Department sponsored Haunted Forest was a huge success on Saturday night. Over 600 people enjoyed the hayride and walk through the haunted forest. Saturday night's success made up for the rainy cold Friday night when crowds were light.

At last night's CSCD meeting the report on the water main project was all hearts and flowers. The report indicated that the project was 98% complete and they were presently pressure testing. Today, a water leak appeared in front of Sweetwater Realty coming up through the road! Workers started digging up the brand new blacktop looking for the water leak!

Caught last evening doing her paddleboard route from her home on Opossum drive was Lauri Kaiser. She was going all the way around Sweetwater Lake. Asked if she was concerned about being out as darkness was approaching......."nope...I've got my lighted paddle!"

Wow! New street lining has been completed this week in the Conservancy. Yellow lines down the middle of the roads and white edge lines down the sides makes driving safer! The Conservancy also cooperated and agreed to "halvsies" for painted lines on Nineveh Road from the county line to the beginning of the Conservancy property. This will certainly be appreciated on dark rainy nights.

It was a beautiful first day of fall on Sweetwater with 92 degree temps and the water has warmed back up to 82 degrees. During the summer I do water clarity testing for Indiana Clean Lakes program out of Indiana University by dropping a black and white Seichi Disk in the water and see how far down it goes before disappearing. I usually get readings of 17-20 feet on sunny days during the week when there is no boat traffic. The water level is down a bit but extremely clear so I decided to test for fun. The reading was 27 feet.

The Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owner's Association annual OX ROAST a resounding success this year. There was a significant increase in booths for visitors to visit and the crowd attendance was up over past years. The success was due to a lot of work on the part of the Association members.

South Central REMC has been going through the area and trimming off dead trees and branches that have the opportunity to fall on the power lines. They usually do not cut the entire tree down and they usually leave the pile of branches and limbs for the property owner to clean up.

The Saturday July 1st fireworks were the best ever is what several friends told me. The weather was perfect and the beach was full of spectators. The Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners Association (CSLOA) ran a concession food booth and sponsored/paid for the event. Thanks also to Sweetwater Realty for donating an extra $1,000 for the fireworks display.

The most controversial subject at tonight's CSCD meeting was the subject of golf carts. There was a lengthy discussion among board members noting safety issues and personal opinions. In the end a "role count vote" produced a 4 to 3 vote deciding to not send the proposed resolution to the Brown County Commissioners.

Thanks to the local Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners Association for sponsoring the annual kids ride day. The ride from the Conservancy Office to the Clubhouse featured a variety of wheeled vehicles plus a couple of family dogs. The event was topped off with ice cream and goodies for all participants.

The local Anglers Club held a fishing tournament today on both Cordry and Sweetwater Lakes. The winning fisherman was local contractor Rodney Gunter who brought in a 6.2 lb large mouth bass and a 3 lb small mouth bass. Congratulations to Rodney and applause to the Anglers Club for sponsoring the event.
Several of us have wondered about the holes that have been made in the water meter covers. As part of the upgrading of the water utility, small transmitters are being installed in every water meter pit. So....the hole will be filled with a plastic appearing unit. This will eliminate the time consuming job of physically reading each meter each month. This will free up man hours for other area jobs.

I've lost track of how many inches of rain we've had this past week on top of the previous week's rain. As of this writing,(Friday, May 5th, 9:00 AM) Sweetwater is up to the bottoms of the local docks. Even if it stopped raining today, the run-off from the watershed will keep the lake high for days.

Progress on the installation of the new water main continues on schedule. The final "boring" section was completed this week when the company bored underneath the Cordry Sweetwater stone wall entrance. Now that the boring sections are complete, the main lines along Nineveh Road will be "dug" using conventional methods.
