South Central REMC has been going through the area and trimming off dead trees and branches that have the opportunity to fall on the power lines. They usually do not cut the entire tree down and they usually leave the pile of branches and limbs for the property owner to clean up.

The Saturday July 1st fireworks were the best ever is what several friends told me. The weather was perfect and the beach was full of spectators. The Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners Association (CSLOA) ran a concession food booth and sponsored/paid for the event. Thanks also to Sweetwater Realty for donating an extra $1,000 for the fireworks display.

The most controversial subject at tonight's CSCD meeting was the subject of golf carts. There was a lengthy discussion among board members noting safety issues and personal opinions. In the end a "role count vote" produced a 4 to 3 vote deciding to not send the proposed resolution to the Brown County Commissioners.

The local Anglers Club held a fishing tournament today on both Cordry and Sweetwater Lakes. The winning fisherman was local contractor Rodney Gunter who brought in a 6.2 lb large mouth bass and a 3 lb small mouth bass. Congratulations to Rodney and applause to the Anglers Club for sponsoring the event.
Several of us have wondered about the holes that have been made in the water meter covers. As part of the upgrading of the water utility, small transmitters are being installed in every water meter pit. So....the hole will be filled with a plastic appearing unit. This will eliminate the time consuming job of physically reading each meter each month. This will free up man hours for other area jobs.

I've lost track of how many inches of rain we've had this past week on top of the previous week's rain. As of this writing,(Friday, May 5th, 9:00 AM) Sweetwater is up to the bottoms of the local docks. Even if it stopped raining today, the run-off from the watershed will keep the lake high for days.

Progress on the installation of the new water main continues on schedule. The final "boring" section was completed this week when the company bored underneath the Cordry Sweetwater stone wall entrance. Now that the boring sections are complete, the main lines along Nineveh Road will be "dug" using conventional methods.
Employees at the Cordry Sweetwater Conservancy Office sometimes go way beyond their job descriptions. Nick and Stacey at the office were caught hooking up the pick-up truck to the patrol boat trailer in preparation of launching the Cordry patrol boat.

SRS DREDGING appeared today to level out the field across from the beach. This area was the deposit area for spoils from the dredging on Sweetwater and Cordry for the past 5 years. Now that era has passed and living up to the contract, SRS is back grading and seeding the field. What has been a bit of an eye sore for the past few years will now be a nice green field.

It's official! Spring is just around the corner! The Turkey Buzzards are back congregating on the South Water Tower and roosting in the trees on Halibut Drive. They used to gather at the bottom of Church Hill on the Sipes property but in the last couple of years now hang around near the fire station.

Driving by the Sweetwater Beach today and notice Scuba Divers! The Johnson County Sheriff's Diving Team was doing their Winter Diving Certification. They said they were hoping for ice to dive through for their certification but......warm winter.....no ice. Hard to believe our warm temperatures this month. Sweetwater had water skiers last Saturday. Warm weather predicted for this coming weekend may see boaters and more water skiers.

It was long overdue! The monthly charge for water is going to increase. Prince's Lakes owns the water utility which gets its water from deep wells located near Blue River in Camp Atterbury. Prince's Lakes then sells water to several surrounding areas including Cordry Sweetwater. A 16% rate increase has been set for 2017. Add to this the expense that CSCD is incurring for the installation of a new water main from the Brown County line to the north water tower and other improvements long needed will result in increased monthly water bills. The average user will see an increase of around $12.50 to their monthly water bill.

The annual Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners "Chili Cook Off" will be on February 11th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. There will be a panel of judges giving their opinions on several varieties of chilies. Award winners will be announced at the end of the evening.
