CHRISTMAS GUESTS

This group of Hooded Mergansers were visiting during Christmas Day. Unlike ducks and geese, they feed on fish. They were busy diving on the north end of Sweetwater today.

My neighbors across the lake have "put out the stars!" Mr. and Mrs. Andrew on Cardinal Drive.

CORDRY LAKE SWANS

While out boating and water skiing today, a bevy of white swans flew in and landed on Cordry Lake. I drove by later this evening and they were still there near the dam.

CHRISMAS LIGHTS #2

Ray and Sue Wolfe win the honors for most lights on one display. Drive by and enjoy the scene at Center Lake Road and Chappell Hill Drive.

CHRITMAS LIGHTS #1

Around the Conservancy, several residents have made the Christmas Season more enjoyable with holiday lights. Pictured is the Carrico display on Center Lake Road.

OLD SWEETWATER DOCK

Demolition work has begun on the Sweetwater Lake dock. It has been in poor repair for the past couple of years. I believe that the new dock will incorporate a covered boat slip for the safety patrol boat.

BRRRR!

It's a winter wonderland here with snow on Tuesday and cold temps today. The morning temperature was 2 degrees. Lots of steam coming off the water but the only ice is on small ponds and very north sections of Cordry and Sweetwater.

BEAUTIFUL FIRST SNOW

Getting rid of the "brown" and bringing on the "white!" Mother nature is dressing it up for the holidays with the season's first snow!

SANTA WORKSHOP SUCCESS

The Santa's Workshop was a smashing success today! Sponsored by the Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owner's Association, volunteers set up various workstations in the clubhouse with a craft assembly at each station. There was painting, wood crafts, paper ornaments, and more. The Indian Creek Choir entertained, a live band came later and even Santa paid a visit. It was refreshing to see a goodly number of youngsters participating in the project that will surely be repeated next year. Picture is local resident Anita Wright at one of the craft stations.

FEATHER DRYING

The local turkey vultures are still around drying their feathers! One of their favorite "hang-outs" is the south water tower. They like to perch on the tower and spread their wings to dry in the sun. The vultures usually migrate in the winter but warm weather has delayed their departure.

WARM WEATHER WORKERS

Continued warm weather has lengthened the work season for many local contractors. Pictured is Jerry Cleefman and helpers excavating for a new garage at the corner of Center Lake Road and Trout Drive.

FINALLY!

The home on Center Lake Road that was demolished a year and a half ago that was demolished by a falling tree is being rebuilt. A terrific wind storm downed trees down in different sections on Cordry and Sweetwater Lakes. This particular house has sat for year and a half covered by blue tarps. Permits for rebuilding were recently issued and work has begun.

HARD CORE DREDGING

SRS Dredgers are still here now working on some "hard to get to" areas on Sweetwater. "One if by Two if by sea" goes here! This particular cove on Hummingbird Drive couldn't be reached by water so they are doing dredging by land access with this "long armed" unit.

STILL HERE!

The Cordry Sweetwater Turkey Vultures are still here. They usually migrate south for the winter but haven't left yet. The used to roost at the bottom of Church Hill but for the last couple of years they group together in the trees on Halibut Drive and then perch on the south water tower to dry their wings.

BEACH HOUSE RENOVATION

Work has begun on the Sweetwater Beach shelter house. New restrooms are to be installed and be ready for next season. GP Construction was awarded the contract.

BOATS OUT

Time to be taking the boats out as cold weather is predicted for the coming weekend. It's been a great October and November. Pictured is Jason Gatewood and Shawn Michel both of Sweetwater Lake at the Sweetwater Ramp.

NOVEMBER HEAVEN!

Unseasonable warm temperatures have been enjoyed by all. Pontooners and even water skiers have enjoyed the 70's air temperatures and the 60's water temperatures.

FUN HALLOWEEN

Halloween night was mild and warm providing a fun evening for all trick or treators. The Cordry Sweetwater Fire Department opened up their facility for Halloween Partiers. The Church of the Lakes also provided Halloween fun for adults and children. Pictured is the Sweetwater Realty brokers at the Fire Station.

OCTOBER WATER SKIERS

The unseasonable warm weather has caused boater to keep their boats in the water later this year. 70 degree weather this past weekend has seen water skiers out on both lakes. Pictured is 7 year old Luke Dougherty enjoying the warm weather on Cordry Lake. Luke wore his wet suit but dad and friend skied with just trunks and life vests!

FALL COLORS

The colors may be at their peak. Even though we have not had a frost, the trees have been turning colors just this week. Warm weather is predicted for all of next week into Noevember.

SPOOKY FUN

The annual Cordry Sweetwater Fire Department Haunted Forest was a huge success this year. Warm weather on both nights had workers and guests in short sleeves. The event kept 4 haywagons busy on both evenings until midnight!

MORE NEW CONSTRUCTION

This construction project is located on Hummingbird Drive on Sweetwater Lake. It is being built on a site where a previous home was removed. Always remember that construction of any kind require building permits issued by the Conservancy.

NEW CONSTRUCTION

New construction is happening all around the Lakes. In addition to the usual waterfront dock and lift projects, there are several new homes being constructed on both lakes. The home is situated on a large acreage and waterfront on East side of Cordry Lake.

HAUNTED TRAIL

The annual Cordry Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department Haunted Trail will be Friday, October 28th and Saturday, October 29th from 8:00 PM to Midnight each night.

STILL DREDGING

The dredging on Sweetwater Lake continues. Latest work has been on the north end of Sweetwater Lake in some of the smaller coves. This rainy day didn't stop the workers from digging up more muck!

OOOPSIE!

Another one misses the curve. Surprise visitor at Sweetwater Realty this evening as the driver missed the turn and decided to tour the flower garden at Sweetwater Realty and stopping in the Spruce Tree!

ACORN TIME

It seems that every other year is an "acorn year." This year must be the right one as the acorns are falling everywhere hitting decks, plopping in the water, etc. Be careful parking under oak trees or hickory trees. Hickory nuts can produce dents in hoods and tops of cars!

SMALL MOTOR REPAIR

Josh Rooks @ 317-225-0447 is a magician with small motors! I have taken mowers, jet skis, and small outboards to him and he has worked wonders with all. He's local living here in the lakes. Give him a call.

SWEETWATER JELLYFISH

I'm no marine biologist but believe it or not.....we have jellyfish. Over the years, every once in awhile, I've seen them here and other fresh water lakes. The are about the size of a quarter and clear with white markings. They are located at the buoy area between Jay Drive and Hummingbird Drive on Sweetwater Lake and swimming about 1 foot under the surface of the water.

DREDGING CONTINUES

Dredging on Sweetwater Lake coves continues. The dredger recently dredged/cleaned out the approach to the Sweetwater spillway. We hope this will cure some of the slow water evacuation during heavy rains.

OVER THE RAINBOW

According to Larry Niles of Eagle Drive who submitted this photo
, everyone left too early on Labor Day. An early evening shower cleared up and presented this rainbow over Sweetwater Beach.

NEW EQUIPMENT

The Conservancy recently purchase two new pieces of equipment to replace an aging money-wasting backhoe. Pictured is Josh sprucing up the parking lot at the clubhouse in preparation for the 57th annual Ox Roast to be held on Saturday, September 3rd.

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

RAIN AND HIGH WATER

Continuous rain this week has raised both lakes levels. Cordry is on "yellow light" meaning only slow boat traffic. Sweetwater is on "red light" today meaning not boat traffic at all which is very rare.

Friday, August 12, 2016

OX ROAST

Did they ever really roast an OX? The annual Cordry Sweetwater Ox Roast is Labor Day weekend Saturday from 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM. Everyone needs to support this community event. They are also looking for helpers to work a 3 hour shift. Call Dani @ 317-431-4605.

LINDA ANN

Out for a Saturday afternoon ride on Sweetwater Lake was Linda Ann. This classic Chris Craft is owned by Dr. and Mrs. Bly on Jay Drive of Sweetwater Lake.

SWEETWATER DREDGING

The dredging equipment appeared today on Sweetwater Lake. This will be the 5th and final year of a "five year dredging program" for both Cordry and Sweetwater Lakes. If you live on Sweetwater and want some extra dredging done....better call now as who knows with dredging equipment will be back on the lake. Contact the Conservancy office for a detailed list of areas to be dredged.

AIR BOAT

I heard the sound of a V8 engine idling up the lake on the north end of Sweetwater Lake. Don't see many of those our our lakes! Looks like Aquatic Control was doing some additional lake treatment in the shallow areas of the north end of Sweetwater

GIRL SCOUT PROJECT

The local girl scouts are looking to give some food to the Brown County Food Pantry. The poster says it all.

DREDGING SWEETWATER

Look what appeared in the park across from Sweetwater Beach today! Looks like the final year of a 5 year dredging plan will be taking place on Sweetwater in the next couple of months. A contract for this final phase was funded and signed this past spring.

A presentation was made this evening at the CSCD monthly meeting from a company doing the water utility improvements. In the presentation, the need for replacing the 50 year old system, the cost, the method of installation, statistics, and affect on the monthly water bills for residents was explained. If all goes well, construction should begin in the spring of 2017.

MONDAY SKI LESSONS

The Monday Free Water Ski Lessons have come to an end. For the past 3 Mondays we have taught 12 brand new water skiers to water ski and 6 experienced water skiers improved their skills. The youngest skier was 5 years and the oldest was 24. It was very rewarding to see the smiles on the faces of the students and the teachers. Thanks to Ralph Nicolosi for helping out. Pictured is Maggie from Raccoon Drive who was all smiles after getting up on her first try!.

CONCERT AT THE BEACH

Perfect summer weather made for an enjoyable evening at Sweetwater Beach. The Brown Community Band played to a large crowd on the lawn at the Sweetwater Beach pavilion. A group of watercraft also congregated out on the water in front of the beach to enjoy the music. Meanwhile, a live band played at the north end of Sweetwater at the Sherman residence on Duck Drive.

NEW HOUSE ON SWEETWATER

Not very many new houses in the past few years. Saw Jerry Cleefman digging the new foundation for a new house on Beaver Drive today.

DOG DAYS

Great summer weather the past week has brought out the real meaning of being at the lake. Dogs on paddleboards, Dogs on kayaks, Dogs in the lake!

CSLOA BIKE PARADE

Maybe not as big of crowd as the Indianapolis 500 but none the less just as enthusiastic were the participants in the first CSLOA sponsored bike parade held today at 11:00 AM. Some of the bikers got a little out of control going down a slight hill and then needed an extra push going uphill! Ice cream rewards made it all worthwhile! Thanks CSLOA board members.
