FISH STRUCTURES INSTALLED

Members of the Ecology Commission and Anglers Club began installing "Porcupine Fish Structures" in Sweetwater Lake on Sunday, April 18th. Several structures are grouped together and anchored in 15' or greater water depths at various locations in the lakes.

BOOK SALE CHILI SUPPER SUCCESS

The "Dolly Parton Imagination" book sale and chili supper was well attended today. Great weather, tasty chili, good live music from the Brown County Community Band, and books in the hands of youngsters made the day memorable. The project was spearheaded by local resident Pat Blocker and supported by volunteers from the Church of the Lakes and the Cordry Sweetwater Lot Owners.

GROUSE DRIVE FIRE

The permanent residence of Gerald and Shirley Hash at 6240 Grouse Drive burned to the ground early today. Neighbors reported hearing an explosion near 4:00 AM this morning with flames appearing immediately afterwords. The inhabitants were away - no injuries-no loss of life.

CORDRY SPILLWAY PAVING

The re-paving of the rough section of the road located at the Cordry Spillway/Boat Ramp was completed today. The existing pavement was "ground down" and then new asphalt was installed in its place.

ANGLERS FISHING TOURNAMENT

The Cordry Sweetwater Anglers held their first tournament of the season on Sweetwater Lake today. Windy conditions and high water didn't stop the enthusiasm of numerous fishermen. The prize of the day went to Chris Kaiser of Sweetwater Lake. Pictured is his catch....a 9.5 pound Northern Pike. The angler's new website is......cordrysweetwateranglers.com

COURT HEARING

On Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 the hearing of Klosinski verses Cordry Sweetwater Conservancy District was heard in Brown County Circuit Court. Mr. and Mrs. Klonsinski claim that the Conservancy is operating illegally and beyond the bounds of Indiana Conservancy Law. Each party presented their evidence/case in the day long hearing. Judge Judy Stewart will present her decision in the future.

NESTING SWANS

Love is in the air! Mrs. Swan in on the nest! The nest appears to be about 4 feet in diameter and is located on an island area at the north end of Sweetwater Lake caused by the flood of June 2008. Mr. Swan is very territorial. A nearby resident reports that he witnessed Mr. Swan chasing after a swimming deer! They have also shown some aggression towards approaching boats. Update (4/9/2010): A 2 inch rain on Wednesday night (4/7/2010) caused Sweetwater to flood. The nest appears to have survived but Mrs. Swan is no longer sitting on the nest. I got close enough to take a picture and noted that there were no eggs visible in the nest. The two swans also seem less protective than before. Update (2/25/2010) For the past week, Mrs. Swan has been back on the nest. One day, I saw both birds on the nest. They have become very territorial again charging after boats and geese. The conservancy workers installed a buoy marked "nesting swans" to warn boats entering the danger zone!
